September 2026 newsletter: Cheddar Audax, cyclocross and Spond

Evenings are drawing in, but the riding shows no sign of slowing down. Here are the highlights from the September newsletter.

Ride updates

All three of our regular rides are running well: Tuesday-night off-road rides under Mark Harvey, plus Thursday-night road rides and Saturday-morning rides. We’d love to see more Sunday social rides too. Anyone can suggest or organise one, so post it up. As the days get shorter, keep an eye on Facebook for late changes, pack an extra layer and carry lights for any ride that might finish in poor light.

Club Audax: Cheddar, 12 September

Round 3 of our summer Audax series heads west from Five Rivers via Wilton and Mere, up through Bruton and Glastonbury to Wells and Axbridge, then back through Frome and Warminster. It’s a proper day in the saddle, run Audax-style: no speed is too slow and we ride as a group. The start is at 8:30am.

Cyclocross season and the Andover Supercross

The Wessex Cyclocross League opened at Clanfield on 6 September. This year SRAM CC is the sole host of the Andover Supercross, the biggest race of the season, with over 450 people racing in 2025. We need help with the course build (13 and 14 November), marshalling on race day (15 November) and take-down (16 November). Speak to Tony Anderson or email chair@sramcc.com.

Winter Audax Series 2026–27

Six rides, one a month, from October to March, all leaving Five Rivers at 08:30 on a Saturday, with a café stop halfway. See the full schedule.

Trying something new: Spond

The committee is trialling Spond, a free app built for sports clubs, as a replacement for Facebook for ride organisation and club announcements.
