In July, we are going to ride two routes in and around the Brecon Beacons. The ride start and end points are centred on the Visitor Centre in Brecon. The visitor centre or booking.com can help with finding accommodation for those who wish to ride on both the Saturday and Sunday. These rides are tough, you need to be riding towards the top end of the Thursday rides or a GIOTW regular in terms of your level of fitness. Riding the roads of Wales in the wet is absolutely no fun at all, so be prepared for last minute changes to the routes. The weather would have to be forecast to be very poor in order for us to cancel the rides altogether, but it is a possibility. When you make your accommodation bookings therefore, ensure that you can cancel without a fee (unless you want to spend a rain sodden weekend…

Through its membership of British Cycling, the SRAMCC has £10m Liability Insurance related to club activities, committee members and other officials of the club, members acting on the instructions of the committee, and certain non-member participation. Details of the clubs’ insurance policy can be found here on the British Cycling website. Please note that Individual Club Members are specifically excluded from the Club’s own British Cycling insurance policy, which covers club officials whist carrying out their duties. Participation in club rides and other events is at your own risk and you are strongly advised to obtain Liability Insurance cover. British Cycling has confirmed that club runs are a “ride of individuals” who are each responsible for their own actions and for obeying the law. Being on a ride with the SRAMCC does not remove your individual responsibility and liability. Likewise offering to lead a ride does not make you responsible for…

No one wants to have an accident and therefore the SRAMCC have carried out General Risk Assessments for our club’s social rides. The assessments highlight potential dangers relating to participation in “club runs” but are subject to a Dynamic Assessment on the day depending on such factors as the abilities and numbers of the riders participating, the prevailing weather conditions and any known issues or changes to the planned routes and destinations. These will be announced at the pre-ride briefing before the rides depart. There may be additional instructions and advice given by the ride leaders and other riders during the ride itself. Communication of information between all riders is to be encouraged to ensure a safe and successful ride. The MTB Risk Assessment should be read alongside the Road Rides Risk Assessment as it contains a few extra points specific to trail riding. Note that the Road Bike Risk…

We are lucky enough to have as a club member a fully qualified cycle mechanic, Ian. If you have any cycle maintenance needs, from a simple brake check to a full service, a new cassette to a fresh box build, then Ian can help you out.

A good training route with plenty of long climbs plus some sweet single track mixed in to keep things interesting. Directions start from the car park at Michael Herbert Hall in Wilton. Following the route from there is about 20 km with 400m elevation in total or you can repeat the main 12km loop to take your total distance closer to 20 miles or 32km. Strava route Directions: Turn left out of the car park, ride along the road to the crossroads where you turn left along the road and past the Bear Inn. When the main road carries on left, turn off right onto a residential street, carry on under the railway bridge then turn left onto the track heading up the hill. When the track forks keep right to head up to Grovely Woods where you’ll see a green gate at the top of the climb. Turn left…

Hidden away in the Quantocks the downhill tracks at Triscombe are some of my personal favourites. There’s something like 25 – 30 tracks of Red/Black grade which ride really well in all weather conditions plus everything is accessible from a short fireroad which can be pushed or pedalled up in less than 10 minutes. What more could you possibly want! You’ll need to be a confident rider for this trip, most of the big features are totally avoidable however you should be able to ride drops of 1 – 2 feet as a minimum skill level. Don’t forget to let us know if you can make it on our Facebook events page.

Here we have all the dates for your MTB diaries up to the end of March 2018 to keep you riding right through to next spring. Some of the dates and locations below will be subject to change.
